An independent technology advisor in Carson City
I am David Monachino. I spent more than 25 years building and running IT at scale. Now I put that experience on the side of small businesses: planning the work, choosing the providers, and holding them to it.
Background
Most of my career has been spent running large-scale systems for a large public-sector organization. I have done the work I now help you buy, which is how I know what good looks like and when a provider is cutting corners.
- Google Workspace super admin for more than 12 years: deployment, security, integrations, migrations from consumer Google accounts, and Chromebook fleets of around 2,000 new devices a year.
- Active Directory, Microsoft 365 and Entra ID administration.
- Azure cloud network architect and engineer: the secure foundations a company's cloud systems run on, covering networking, sign-in and the full range of Azure resources, all defined in code so they can be repeated and audited.
- Google Cloud data and analytics with BigQuery and Looker.
- Subject-matter expert for an enterprise GitHub platform built from scratch for a large public-sector organization, and trainer for the team that runs on it.
- Single sign-on (one login for many apps) for more than 6,000 users, and connecting business applications to it.
- Network design across 20+ sites: LAN, WAN, wireless, point-to-point microwave links and firewalls, plus VMware, Linux and Docker on the server side.
- Daily, hands-on use of the major AI platforms and open-source models, plus training and policy for the responsible adoption of AI in a large organization.
- Years of running a help desk and acting as the final escalation point. That is where I learned what to expect from an IT provider, and what to check.
Advice that is tested, not read off a brochure
In my own lab I run the tools and security practices I recommend, so I have used them myself: redundant storage with tested backups, separate networks behind a firewall, a second login step on every admin tool, monitoring with alerts, and private AI on local hardware. Every approach I use in a client's AI pilot is tried here first.
