Sound familiar?

  • We think we are fine, but nobody has actually checked.
  • Our cyber insurance renewal asks questions we cannot answer.
  • The person who set all this up has moved on, and we are not sure what we have.
  • We pay several tech companies every month and are not sure what each one does for us.

What is included

  • Email and accounts review in Google Workspace or Microsoft 365: who has an account, who has admin rights, whether every login needs a second step (MFA), how files are shared, and whether others can send email pretending to be you.
  • Backup review: what is backed up, where it goes, how long it is kept, and whether anyone has ever tested getting the files back.
  • Network review: firewall, Wi-Fi, guest access, remote access and anything reachable from the internet.
  • Computer review on a sample of devices: updates, encryption, virus protection and who has admin rights.
  • Vendor and spending review: who you pay for IT support, internet, phones and software, what each contract covers, when it renews, and licenses you pay for but do not use.
  • AI use review: which AI tools staff use today and what goes into them, which AI features you already pay for in Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, and the two or three tasks where AI would save real time.
  • A one-hour walkthrough of the findings with you and anyone you want in the room.

What you receive at the end

  • A plain-English written report. Every finding is rated by risk and by effort.
  • A 12-month roadmap: what to do this week, this quarter and this year, a rough budget for each item, and who should do it.
  • An AI section in the roadmap: the AI use policy first, then the quick wins, then whether an AI pilot is worth it.
  • The report is yours to keep, whoever ends up doing the work.

Who it suits

  • Businesses with about 10 to 100 staff and no full-time IT person.
  • Teams facing a cyber insurance renewal or a security questionnaire from a client.
  • Businesses that changed IT providers or lost the person who knew how everything worked.

What you need to provide

  • Admin access to your email and accounts platform. Read-only access is used wherever the platform offers it.
  • Access to the firewall and Wi-Fi settings, or a guided screen share with whoever has it.
  • About an hour with the owner or office manager, and 30 minutes with whoever handles IT today, if anyone.
  • A list of the software, IT companies and other tech vendors the business pays.

What happens after

The report comes with a roadmap. You choose what to do with it:

  • Hand the report to your current IT provider. It is written so they can act on it.
  • Use it to choose a new provider, with help through IT provider selection.
  • Take the AI section further with AI strategy and safe use, or an AI pilot on your own data.
  • Keep me on as your fractional IT director to see the roadmap through.
  • There is no obligation. The assessment stands on its own.

Assessment and roadmap: common questions

Will you fix what you find?

No. I do not do the hands-on work, so the roadmap is written for whoever will. It says who should handle each item, and most of it goes to your IT provider.

Is this a formal audit or a compliance certification?

No. It is a practical review against widely used security baselines, written for the people who run the business. It can help you answer insurance and client questionnaires, but it does not certify compliance with any regulation.

Will it disrupt our work?

No. The assessment looks and reports. Nothing is changed in your systems during the review, and most of it happens without anyone in the office noticing.

Is the price really fixed?

Yes. $1,500 covers a typical business of 10 to 100 people with one main location. If yours is larger or spread across several sites, you get a written quote before anything starts.

We already have an IT provider. Is that a problem?

Not at all. An independent review gives you and your provider the same clear list to work from.
